Armed robbers have reportedly killed two policemen after attacking a bullion van in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, sources told The Guardian.

Our source said the incident occurred Idi Ape junction, opposite a private school in Ibadan on Thursday.

The scene of the attack is less than 200 meters from the Testing Ground Police station, which houses one of the area commands of the Nigeria Police Force in the state.

The witness disclosed that two police officers escorting the bullion van were killed during the attack.

Residents and business owners in the area fled for safety after the robbers reportedly operated unrepelled for about an hour.

A security surveillance platform Eons Intelligence said the “robbers capitalized on the escalated mayhem created by traders clashes in Gbagi Int’l mkt to attack a Bullion van around Idi-Ape area, Ibadan.”

Gbagi Market is about 4.7 kilometres away from Idi Ape.

Oyo State Police Command is yet to ascertain the level of the casualty from the incident but said one of the robbers was killed on the spot.
