Ogun: Assembly demands details as AG claims Abiodun assented 25 bills in six months

Governor Dapo Abiodun was said to have assented six bills in six months, from January to June, 2021.

The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Akingbolahan Adeniran, disclosed on Monday that 25 bills passed by the State Assembly were assented to by Abiodun, while two others were still under consideration.

Adeniran, while presenting the 2021 budget performance of the Ministry before the State lawmakers at the Assembly complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, stated that five Executive Orders establishing State Safety Commission, Waste Management Authority, State Skills Funds, Lagos/ Ogun Joint Development Commission and Framework for Responsible and Inclusive Land Intensive Agricultural Investment (FRILIA) were also issued within the period under review.

The Attorney General noted that the Public Prosecution Department of the Ministry set out strategies which resulted in turnaround time for issuance of legal advice from more than two years, to four weeks for legal advice, and six weeks for filling of information papers towards aiding speedy justice dispensation.

Responding, the Chairman of the Committee, Solomon Osho, directed the Attorney General to avail the Assembly within a week, the details of all bills signed into law in the period under consideration.

According to Osho, this will enable the lawmakers to have up-to-date knowledge on the status of bills that have been transmitted to the executive arm of government.
