Leader of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Niger State and immediate past Governor of the state, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has described the last Saturday’s congress of the party as a sham and an abuse of rule of law.

He stated that the congress was in liaison with a bought over North central leadership of the party by a faction of the state PDP.

Addressing a crowd of party supporters in his house in Minna, who came to welcome him from Abuja, Babangida said even the National Working Committee of the PDP was taken aback by the illegality and brazen abuse of the rule of law by some desperate politicians.

He said, “The state party congress was held by a faction of the party members in the state penultimate week, in liaison with a bought over North central leadership of the party, the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Niger State said the National Working Committee of the PDP was taken aback by the illegality and brazen abuse of the rule of law by some desperate politicians.”

Babangida insisted, “those who thought that they could seize the realm of the party’s executives in the state by whipping ethnic sentiments and displaying other forms of bigotry, will in no distant time, be placed in their deserved positions.

“I want to appeal to genuine members of the party in the state to remain calm and await the unfolding events in the party as all necessary steps are being worked upon to give the party in the state a sense of order, sanity and diligence.”

The factional PDP leader enjoined members of the party not to leave the PDP, saying, “those who organised and took part in that sham are enemies of our great party in Niger state. Please, don’t leave or abandon the PDP”

The former governor further alleged, “a band of disgruntled self-seeking persons populated the faction who organised the congress without giving notice for the congress, and excluded others from the said congress. I wonder, if democracy could be so manipulated and muzzled as was done by self seekers.”
