Following the purported land grabbing issues around Bauchi road which led to escalated arrests of some youths of anaguta extract at the Jos North Local Government Council Secretariat with counter accusation.

The youths of the Anaguta extraction have alledged brutal attacks on some of them by men of the security operatives at the instance of the Local Government Council Chairman. And have further issued a rejoinder to the press statement earlier released by Management of Jos North (HERE) on what transpired.

The Anaguta youths are calling on the Jos North Chairman, Shehu Bala to make a public apology on referring to them as “trouble makers”

ANAGUTA YOUTH MOVEMENT (AYM) RESPONDS TO THE PRESS STATEMENT OF THE TRANSITION CHAIRMAN, JOS NORTH LGA.

We use this medium to bring to light the hidden truth behind the unfolding of events between the Anaguta nation and the transition chairman of Jos North LGA.

In a press release made by the chairman, through his information officer Philip Eplong, he referred to the Anaguta people as “troublemakers” which is uncalled for because the Anaguta are a people known for hospitality and peace. This phrase is used for the mere malicious fact that they stood their ground against land grabbers who are bent on taking forcefully the east of Bauchi ring road. This perhaps seems to go against the chairman’s will.

On the said “Committee”, which was set early last year by the chairman. As at the time the committee was set, there was no single structure on the disputed area, but few months later, over a hundred structures were raised illegally which the chairman did not in any way frown against.

While the original owners of the land were in obedience to the law set by the management committee chairman, the land grabbers ignored all set laws and continued building despite the order set by the chairman. Yet nothing was done to the people in that regard.

We also clear the point that states “the youth sustained injuries”. In actual sense, they were brutally injured by the men of the STF sent on them by the chairman.

The leadership of the Anaguta Youth Movement honored the invitation of the chairman for a meeting at the local government Secretariat, where a peaceful deliberation took place after which the unarmed four members of the national EXCO were arrested, molested and brutalized by the members of the STF at the local government Secretariat before the management committee chairman of the council which he was pleased with. The EXCO members were later taken away and put behind bars at the Jos Police Area command.

The chairman did not call to inform any elder statesman of the incident but rather threw insults on the council secretary, calling him “stupid” for the mere fact that he called to find out more about the unjust act.

OUR TAKE

  1. The state govt should kindly go ahead with the execution of the set committee’s report.
  2. The transition chairman should tender an apology to the Anaguta nation and afterward pay all damages that resulted from his gruesome act of injustice to the 22 men brutally treated by the men of the Special Task Force.
  3. The law should take its due course on anyone found trespassing on the site without any form of bias
  4. The Chairman should apologize for the harsh words used in his press statement as those are rather provocative statements.

We the Anaguta people are lovers of peace and are very law-abiding. We will continue to abide by the laws governing the land so long as our fundamental rights are protected.

We by this release calling on all relevant stakeholders to join the Anaguta nation in this struggle. We also urge our teeming youths to keep the flag of peace flying and remain dogged to protect the only portion we have left on the world map.

Thanks
