How Governor Lalong shell out over N29b on legacy projects and others

Plateau State Government said it has sourced over N29 billion from the capital market to execute the 22 Lalong Legacy Projects across the three senatorial districts of the state, designed to uplift the living standard of the people.

This was disclosed during an inspection tour with journalists led by state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Dan Manjang, alongside the Health Commissioner, Dr Nimkong Lar, was a 3days tour to showcase the ongoing projects across the 17 local councils and the level of work being done in the state.

The commissioner for Information and Communication, Dan Manjang disclosed that some of the projects were inherited from the past Jonah Jang administration while others were initiated by the Lalong administration in line with the Rescue administration’s mandate to reduced hardship, encouraging school enrolment and provide access to health care delivery even to rural communities.

Manjang said “N59 billion was initially earmarked for the 22 projects but when COVID-19 came, it was rescoped to N29 billion and the money has been sourced and now available for the completion of all projects”

Assuring of the completion of the projects, he said the money was sourced from the capital market and Plateau State Government contributes N600 million every month; so we are assuring Plateau citizens that none of the projects, including those that are not under the Legacy Projects, would be abandoned. As such the commissioning of all projects will be before the end of the administration.

The Lalong Legacy Projects includes hospitals and model secondary schools across the 17 local government areas was conceptualized to improve the standard of living of Plateau people from the rural communities.

The Information Commissioner hinted to reporters that Governor Lalong has invested in the “Potatoe Value Chain” establishing a potato processing plant that would stabilize the supply of potatoes, Strategically station potato Famers creating over 60 thousand jobs along the value chain. He noted that on commencement of operations, the multimillion potatoes plant would procure and provide potato flour, starch, chips, as well income for the state government and individuals.

Manjang rounded off the tour at Riyom Local Government with an inspected a water intervention project, A General Hospital and Trauma Center, Potato Value Chain and the model secondary school in Riyom that comprises the gate, examination hall, 28 classrooms, science laboratory, staff quarters among others.

The Commissioner for Health, Nimkong Lar, said most of the projects were strategically placed to attend to the urgent needs of communities centered around education, health care and job creation.
