The Chairman, Committee on Local Governments and Rural Development, Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rilwanu Aminu Gadagau, has been reportedly killed by bandits.
The Clerk, Kaduna State House of Assembly confirmed the lawmaker’s death as remains sketchy at the time of filing this report.
Gadagau’s death comes 24 hours after the Department of State S3curity Service (DSS) raised alarm about lawmakers being targets of assassination.
Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani, said the lawmaker was killed in a suspected attack by bandits along Kaduna-Zaria road on Monday and his corpse was “discovered in a morgue on Wednesday.”
Zailani described the death of Gadagau as devastating.
In a statement signed by his Media and Publicity aid, Ibrahim Dahiru Danfulani, dated Wednesday, December 15, 2021, Zailani described Gadagu as an active member of the house.
According to the statement, he died during the bandits attack along Zaria highway.
“This is tragic and painful. We are in deep grief over this sad incident,” Zailani said.
He prayed for Almighty Allah to grant the state, Assembly, and his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss
The Speaker also prayed for Almighty Allah to grant him Aljannah Firdaus.
“Our prayers at this time goes to his immediate family. Honourable Gadagau was a young and dynamic lawmaker, who had a passion for his constituency, state and Nigeria,” Zailani said.
“We will miss his vibrant contributions.”
The Speaker also commiserated with families of others who were killed during the same attack.
“Our hearts also go out to those kidnapped in the same operation, believing that they would be rescued by security operatives as soon as possible,” he said.
Before his death, Gadagau was the Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government, Kaduna State.
