• Can Now Host 500 Guests Or 50 Per Cent Capacity
• Ceremonies Allowed To Hold For Six Hours

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the easing of restrictions on social and event centres, who are allowed to operate for only six hours and 50 per cent capacity or 500 guests ceiling.

Before now, as a result of COVID-19, event centres could only host 50 guests.

This was disclosed yesterday by the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile Yusuff and the Director-General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola.

Mojola said the governor, after due consultation and deliberations with relevant stakeholders and MDAs, including the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, as well as the Lagos State Safety Commission, approved the further easing of the restrictions with immediate effect.

The duo stated that the occupancy limit at any event must not exceed 50 per cent of the maximum design capacity of the hall, with occupancy limit stickers provided by the Commission boldly posted at the entrance of the event hall.

They also said the maximum allowable capacity for event centres, irrespective of occupancy limit, is 500 people, with physical distancing maintained between seated guests, and a maximum number of seated guests should be six people on a table of 10.

They disclosed that the event duration should not exceed six hours, with all guests and service providers at the facility wearing nose mask, must make use of hand sanitizers, and temperature checks taken at all entry points into a facility.

“Guests and service providers with a temperature above 37.5 are to be politely turned back and referred to paramedics or the emergency response team on the ground.

“Event center owners/ planners/vendors would be responsible for any breach of protocols by their staff. Any violation of this protocol shall attract fines and penalties in line with the Lagos State Infectious Diseases Control Regulation 2020

“All event centres must hold a valid license of the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture prior to operating as an event centre in the state and must be duly registered and verified on the Lagos State Safety Commission, while an Event Safety Clearance must be obtained from the Commission for any proposed event or exhibition.

“Safety Marshals shall be deployed by an accredited event safety consultant from the Commission for every social event with attendance exceeding 200 people.”
