The Osun State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Ouwatosin Odeyemi has advised the Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola to prioritise the needs of the states’ tertiary institutions instead of wasting scarce resources.

Odeyemi, who spoke on the recent presentation of two vehicles to some student associations in the state; NAOSS and NANS, said the governor’s action was a total misplacement of priority that should be condemned.

He advised the governor to take a walk around tertiary institutions in the state and interact with students to find out their challenges and ameliorate them, rather than embarking on ventures that will not add value to the already decaying educational system.

According to him, “I believe people around Mr. Governor are not giving him the right advice. Taking UNIOSUN for instance, despite the increase in students capacity, yet no additional lecture halls, it will soon get to a stage where students will seat on corridors to receive lectures.

“Except for the Osogbo Campus, lack of electricity is taking its toll on the students. If you go there during lectures, immediately there is light, the lecturer will have to pause and wait for students to find where to charge their mobile phones.

“Moreover, whenever there is no light, to get water in those campuses is another problem. Instead of the government looking at those grey areas to find lasting solutions to them, the distribution of buses is their priority.

“Go to OSPOLY Iree campus. The unavailability of students’ hostel should be looked into. Students living among the local population is posing a serious threat to their safety likewise in other tertiary institutions in the state.”
